Overview:

This is a magazine spread concept I made for the article “Growing Up Gaga” by Vanessa Grigoriadis. This was a class project where the assignment was to find an article from a well known magazine company and to design a magazine spread for the article in the magazine company’s style. The article I chose was from New York magazine and I included photographic and illustrative elements to create it. The image included is a photo of Lady Gaga performing before she was famous, and was included in the original article. I chose to include this image since the article is about Lady Gaga’s rise to fame and her struggle on her journey to becoming the famous singer she is today. I also used an image from her on a red carpet and edited it to resemble Andy Warhol’s artwork as it says in the article that Andy Warhol’s artwork is the big inspiration behind her iconic style. I chose to make these Andy Warhol style images of her the only colorful aspect of the spread and to make everything else back and white since the article carries a serious tone about her life. For the subheading, I took a quote from her included in the article that captured one of the struggles she had breaking into the industry, being that she felt pressured to get a nose job in order to be more appealing to record labels and audience, but she didn’t end up giving into this pressure. Finally, the font used for the header and quote was edited to resemble the handwritten-like font on the cover of her album “Born This Way.”
